We strive to be proactive rather than reactive, when a family contacting us is facing the threat of eviction. Our goal is to work to avoid the mental trauma of a family with children losing their housing and becoming displaced. As our funds allow, our teams work to provide this through:
There are alternatives to traditional shelters...Not only does keeping families out of congregated shelters increase their likelihood of rapid recovery from homelessness, but it is also a sound practice to keep the family intact with minimal disturbances to their children’s routine while the head of household receives supportive services to get back on their feet. When families have lost housing and reach out to A Grateful Mind, our Permanent Supportive Housing Program provides alternatives to congregate shelters as we work to locate housing for a family and continue to mentor them throughout their tenancy.
TRANSITIONAL SHELTER
A Grateful Mind uses a holistic approach to transitional housing for families experiencing homelessness to ensure the appropriate fit for a family’s dynamic. Our community of partner affiliates help us coordiate:

As a collective with our partner affiliates each year, we mobilize thousands of dedicated volunteers to offer hospitality, resources and skills training to our participant families under a trauma-informed umbrella.

SELF-SUFFICIENCY & STABILIZATION TRACK
Our Educational Resources Programs build resiliency - while a family is/or has become housed our learning modules help families maintain long term residency within communities and steer towards career paths to stabilize incomes. These well structured programs provide continued supportive services that reduce recurring episodes of homelessness for the family and allow them to graduate upon completions of their milestones.
